Al Amin Kably
Urban and Regional Planner
For the past 15 years, Al Amin Kably has worked for innovative, award-winning international world-leaders in urban planning and design, project management, as well as land development. He has designed and planned new towns in Toronto, Guinea and Mongolia. He has also managed the preparation of master plans at a variety of scales, including participating in neighbourhood, city and regional planning projects such as the award winning Amman Master Plan. His experience spans over 40 cities around the world within North America, Africa, the Middle-East, Central Asia, and South Asia. Overall, he questions conventional strategies, and is very conscious of the power dynamics within various urban and rural settings. He seeks to constantly redefine the profession to be more conscious of people’s needs, which are rarely static in their particular contexts. He is a firm believer in indigenous knowledge, often finding himself within, but in opposition of, compartmentalized institutional methodologies. He has a Bachelor of Architecture from The University of Bombay and a Masters of Urban Design from University of Toronto, and has recently completed assignments for the EU in Egypt, the OSCE in Kosovo, the UN in Lebanon, and the World Bank in Saudi Arabia.
