SAFER BY DESIGN
Binoy Mascarenhas is Manager – Urban Transport (EMBARQ) at WRI Cities. He leads WRI’s urban transport work in Mumbai and its road safety work across India. Binoy has managed safety audits and road redesign projects in a number of cities, such as Mumbai, New Delhi, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, and Indore. Currently, he is managing road safety projects in Mumbai, Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City and Bandung. in 2014, he oversaw the launch of Equal Streets, Mumbai’s first ever, weekly, open streets program. He has conducted training programs for government officials on urban transport in India, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Malaysia.
Binoy has close to 10 years of experience in road safety and urban transport. He previously worked with IL&FS, where he was involved in the development of transport infrastructure projects in Mumbai. He has also worked at Genpact, (formerly GE Capital), on route optimization projects in the United States. Binoy holds a Master’s Degree in Urban Planning from CEPT University, Ahmedabad; and a Master’s Degree in Economics from Gokhale Institute, Pune. He completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai.
