Who is going to stop me? – Tanvi Karia

“The question isn’t who is going to let me; it is who is going to stop me” Tanvi Karia takes this as her gospel. A member of Indian Institute of Interior Designers and an Ex-Associate Member of British Institute of Facilities Management, Tanvi gained a breadth of experience on projects of varying size and locations spanning over a period of 15 years, which include government, commercial, educational, residential and airport buildings. During her stint in London, Tanvi was a Workplace and Space Planning Consultant exploring the new workspace concepts, understanding organisational change and optimising space usage for client organisations with Pringle Brandon Architects, leading the team for projects including the Treasury offices, HM Customs and Excise, Standard Chartered strategic property review, and others.

Besides this Tanvi has also worked with HOK International and British Airport Authority Development Team, developing facilities briefs for Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 project – currently the biggest building project in the world. Another of her key assignments included Strategic Design Brief for the London’s New Westend Master plan for Oxford, Regent and Bond Streets.

With her multi-functional experience, Tanvi has successfully championed skills mainly in the pre-design and the post occupancy stage. Tanvi co-founded ‘Development2020’, a multi disciplinary development and project management firm, with prime emphasis on the building industry. With her keen interest and her international experience in looking at Design as well as Buildings from ‘in-use’, ‘post occupancy’ point of view, she has head started a division within the organisation in Strategic Briefing and Facilities Management Consultancy. This arm is known as FM Xchange.

Here they share expert talks, technical programmes, etc. within the organization as part of a knowledge sharing platform for the Real estate and Building Industry.

pic1Another and a very impressive initiative of the organisation is their contribution towards early stage learning on their construction sites. Along with the contractor and the client team, they run Site Schools for laborers’ children where they employ teachers and care takers for the crèche. They are also Trustees of Avalokiteshwara Trust which sets up Libraries for schools in Ladakh.

Tanvi promises to continue to develop their professional knowledge and competence as practitioners, and contribute to the advancement of profession by fostering research and education.
